Oma

Our family has lost our dear sweet Oma this week. She was 86 years old and missed my Opa very much. I'm so comforted with the thought that they are together once again.
Some of my favorite memories are ones from when I would travel to Germany for a few weeks in the summer. I started going by myself when I was just 7-8 years old. My grandparents did not speak English, so I learned some "Germ-ish" pretty quickly! Let's just say I was fluent enough to get a message across. Ha!
I want to share a few special pictures I have of my Oma and Opa.
We loved when our Oma and Opa would go on vacation with us. This is from the time they went to Disney World with us!

My Oma in her early twenties.

The newlyweds.

My Oma holding her first child, my dad!

Visiting Germany at Christmas time. That's me on my dad's lap!

Spending time doing something they loved most- walking in the beautiful mountains of the Black Forest.

My Opa holding me on my first trip to Germany at 6 months old.

They loved to travel- this is one of their many vacations to tropical parts of Europe and the Mediterrean.

The sweet lady in the blue is my Tante Liesel, my great aunt. She is my Opa's aunt and the person who my dad lived with when he first came to the U.S.

I love old black and white photos. My grandparents looks so glamorous in this one!

The sweet little girl the middle of the two little boys is my Oma. It was so special for my parents to bring back some photos of her childhood for us to see.

My sweet Oma at around 4 years old with her parents.

My Oma was the baby of the family. Her sisters were over 10 years older than her.

Fun having a picnic with Oma in our old backyard in Detroit, MI. You got to love those acid wash jeans I was sporting!

I was blessed to spend as much time as I did with both my grandparents. Even though we were an ocean apart- the bonds that tie families together were strong! I love you Oma and Opa- until we meet again!
