TRIPLETS!

These past four months have been the surprise of our life. Never in our lives did we ever think we'd be expecting triplets!! We are excited and thrilled now but the beginning was a roller coaster.

Josh NEVER believes pregnancy tests....hard to argue with a pink line though! I felt so sick right away that I knew it was a positive.

The pic below was 4 weeks pregnant. I couldn't figure out why I felt so sick and my stomach was popping so early. I never got sick with the boys but with these kiddos it was every day and all day.

At our 7 weeks appointment we went to confirm the pregnancy and see if there was a heartbeat. Our ultrasound tech found a baby right away and we breathed a sigh of relief. I even said to her, "It's only one, right?" to which she answered, "Yup" and then turned the screen back to her. She proceeded to say she was just checking me out and then she was quietly moving the wand around for 10 minutes. The longest 10 minutes EVER. Josh and I kept eyeing each other, worrying about what could be wrong. Suddenly she turned the screen back around and said, "I wanted to make sure I saw heartbeats before I said anything but you have three babies in there". Josh's jaw dropped and we both said, "No way! You're joking". She wasn't. She ran out to tell the doctor really quick and Josh and I just stared at each other in disbelief. We knew we wanted a third but this was too much! Once back in the exam room, I felt overcome with nausea and the nurses had to scrounge up some crackers for me. The doctor explained a little about triplets and informed us that we are now considered a high risk pregnancy which means we have to have a new OB and see a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist every two weeks. All the information was great but I have to say probably neither Josh or I was really listening, we were still in shock. I have to laugh thinking about it now but Josh wasn't supposed to even be able to go to that appointment with me. Could you imagine if I had to tell him when I got home? He'd never have believed me!

Then came the task of telling our family. My mom and dad's reaction was priceless. My mom said I didn't have enough hands or boobs. Ha! My dad just sat and stared. Said absolutely nothing. The rest of our family pretty much all had the same reaction. Shock and disbelief.

We visited MFM (Maternal Fetal Medicine) for the first time and that's when we found out that we have identical triplets. They share a placenta but have separate sacs. I believe the stats are something like 1 in 20/30 million of having this type of natural and spontaneous triplets. So we find out next week if we are going to have three boys or three girls!

The next 5 weeks are crucial because babies that share a placenta have more risk of experiencing twin to twin syndrome. That is where they can unevenly share blood and food and can cause growth issues. So prayers are appreciated! Our first goal is to make it to 28 weeks since that is when they have best chance for viability. Our ultimate goal is to make it to 32 weeks or more. So for their arrival...we hope they keep cooking until the end of January/beginning of February.

Here's a few of our outtakes from the big announcement.

I'm currently 15 weeks so it's crazy to think I'm almost half way there!

Who would have ever guessed 10 years ago that'd I'd have 5 children under 3 after years of infertility?!! I never would have believed them. God's plan is truly amazing. We are thankful for each blessing he's given us. This quote below is so true.

So we thank you in advance for prayers for our little (not really) family of 7! Blogging doesn't happen as often as I'd like but I'll try to keep updating it and to track these sweet new ones stories!
