Show and Tell Tuesdays

Today is all about how we met our spouse!

My story is pretty special. I definitely feel God had his hand in this union from the beginning!

It all began on a youth trip to South Bend, Indiana in August of 2002. I had just graduated high school and was about to begin college the next week. Our youth group was flying to South Bend for a retreat weekend. I was so nervous on the flight there. I had really never dated anyone before and it had been on my heart and in my prayers that maybe God would let me meet someone during this weekend. When we landed at the airport we were greeted by a few youth from the local area. One of them was Aimee (my husband's sister), another was Andy (my husband's best friend) and of course, Josh! I immediately figured Josh and Aimee must be an item (ha!). He sure was tall, dark and handsome. He came up to my friend Heidi and I and introduced himself. I was sure he was interested in my friend- no guys ever seemed interested in me. It's so funny to hear his side of the story- because he said he was trying to talk to me the whole time and I kind of dismissed him.
Story goes that he went home that night and told his mom that he met the woman he was going to marry. I hadn't even told him my name!
The next day we went to a beach and he was the first one to come up and talk to me once again. He must have asked someone my name- because he walked up right beside me and said "Hello, Michelle". This got my attention! He followed me around the rest of that weekend and we got to know each other much better. The weekend ended with a tour of Notre Dame University. The kicker for me is always little kids and how convenient for him to have his little cousin Rachel around. Watching them interact and play around was so sweet that I'm pretty sure that's when he won my heart.

When it was time to fly home, Josh went to give me a kiss and I turned my face so he planted a kiss on my cheek. A girl has to make a guy work for that!
We talked on the phone each night and a week later on my first day of college he sent me a beautiful bouquet. He also drove 12 hours to see me the following weekend. I think from that first weekend we realized that God had something special planned for us.
The next 7 years were full of trips to visit one another, college adventures, more youth retreats and special moments together. By the time we got engaged, I can definitely say we knew each other well!

Celebrating our 1 year dating anniversary by spending a day in Chicago!

My second trip to visit Josh and his family in Niles, MI.

I'm so blessed that God brought Josh into my life that weekend. He is everything I could ever want or wish for in a husband.
