Happy Tuesday (that for some reason feels like a Thursday to me... I wish).
It's been on my heart to share on the blog some of the changes we are making in our household. I have been researching online, reading medical articles and listening to pod casts about how to live more naturally. This refers to personal products, food, etc. not actual moving to the woods or anything. Ha! It's funny how once you read and learn new information, you're brain can't unsee it anymore. That's how it feels to me at least.
If any reason is needed for me to clean up our act it was these two sweethearts. I know that my parents did the best they could for my siblings and I and like them, this is my desire for my children. I by no means am placing judgment on anyone who chooses to do differently..."you do you" and what works for your family! We all love and support our families which is the most important thing!
Since having kids of course, you become super aware of what foods you feed them, products you use...the list goes on. I never really thought about what I put on my own body before having them at all. This past fall I listened to a podcast that really woke something up inside me. As a woman who has experienced infertility (and lives with PCOS) this podcast episode jolted me into doing some more research about how medicine, hormones, etc really affect me. It's been very interesting. I had noticed that I felt really off with some medications I was regularly taking and since going off and trying to manage symptoms more naturally, I feel so much better!
Another change we've made is in products we use to clean. My friend Jenn introduced me to Grove Collaborative- which has a lot of natural cleaning products to replace all the old stuff we've been cleaning with. Love it! Josh has been a huge skeptic of the all natural cleaning products (still working on him) but little by little we are switching it out. I bought a Young Living essential oil starter kit and have made a lot of my own cleaning products and health remedies. So far so good! We love diffusing oils in the house and it's helped us replace candles (and I was such a candle girl before). I've even found a blend of essential oils that smells just like the Volcano candle they have at Anthropologie! Heaven!
I've also switched out a lot of personal products to healthier versions. I downloaded the Think Dirty app that lets you scan the bar codes of the products (cleaning and personal care) that you use and it gives a rating and lists any toxic ingredients that it may have. IT.WILL.BLOW.YOUR.MIND. Baby products are the worst. Makes me sad that in the USA it's allowed for so many awful chemicals to be put in products for kids. Fragrance is a big one. Below are some of the stuff we use in our house. We love the Shea Moisture brand and have noticed that the boys eczema patches have gotten much better. Most Burt's Bee's products have great ratings and for make-up Bare Minerals is really good! Beauty Counter and Primally Pure are two other brands that keep clean products at the top of their lists.
Obviously...this is a multi-step, overtime lifestyle change but I'm excited to be starting it!
