Christmas Festivities!

Ever since I was little Christmas Eve was always the big night for presents. With my father being from Germany, the tradition there is to open gifts from "St. Nicholas" on Christmas Eve. We just continued in that tradition since my first Christmas. It's a fun evening- we feast on yummy German wurst salat (meat salad made from a type of bologna, cheese, pickles and green/red peppers), fresh shrimp with cocktail sauce and a nice crusty bread. Our family has been eating this same meal on Christmas Eve as long as I can remember. My siblings and I used to joke that my dad couldn't cook anything to save his life, but he could make wurst salat (his one and only dish he prepares)!
It's funny, as you get older the gifts part of Christmas doesn't seem so important. I'm looking forward to when we will have children because I think their presence just seems to make Christmas so magical!
It's funny that even as adults (with way less gifts) there is still a huge mess. Cracks me up!

Would you look at this guy's face?!?! #bestpresentever
All I can say is you nailed it David and Brooke! He hasn't taken it off since!

Danielle's wrapping job was so cute.

We bought my dad a new "modern" jacket. Josh is wearing his old one to show the difference. We all got some good laughs out of my husband wearing a elastic waisted jacket on his long body.

One of my favorite gifts was this canvas that my mom made. She said she was looking around on my Pinterest boards and stumbled upon this and copied it! I just love it. How talented is she?!

Christmas Day we enjoyed a beautiful morning at church. There is something so special about singing Christmas hymns as a congregation.
We had some downtime to cook and chill before our family arrived from Detroit. Aunt Holly, Uncle Randy, Jacob, Thaïs and Joshua flew down to spend a week with us. We had so much fun!

My first chocolate layer cake. It was was made from scratch and delicious!
Our menu included:
Prime Rib
Brussel sprouts
Green beans
Spaetzle (German noodles)
Mashed potatoes
Salad
Broccoli and Cauliflower Gratin
Cookies and two cakes!
